The climate is changing and our places need to change too.
With shifting weather patterns and more extreme weather, the way we plan, design and manage places is becoming outdated. We need to adapt new and existing places to climate change in ways that help people and nature thrive.
This might mean rethinking how we manage green spaces, redesigning streets and public spaces and prioritising some strategic interventions to build resilience.
But where to start?
That’s where a Climate-Ready Placemaking Workshop comes in. The workshop is a low-cost way of starting this journey, figuring out what local opportunities there are and what to do next.
The workshops is ideal for local authorities, development/design teams, community groups and nonprofits who want some strategic direction on how to respond to climate change at the place/neighbourhood scale*.
At the workshop, we’ll discuss:
*The scale that works best for the workshop format is a neighbourhood, town centre or small masterplan (less than 100 homes). I don’t work on individual building projects unless there is a clear urban design element. For large masterplans or authority-wide projects, get in touch and we can discuss options.
Hi, I'm Ross O'Ceallaigh - an urban designer with a decade of experience working at the intersection of placemaking, sustainability and ecology. I've worked with local governments across England, Ireland and Nigeria on urban strategy, placemaking and capacity building projects.
Alongside my consulting work, I'm also an educator and podcaster. The Green Urbanist podcast has 120+ episodes and I've run over 60 training events for built environment professionals covering topics like urban design, net zero carbon and biodiversity net gain.
My mission is to help people create climate-resilient places where people and nature thrive.
